“Something I don’t think we talk about enough in the dance world is the fear of injury. We talk and hear a lot about dancers pushing through pain, and being taught that we have to keep dancing even when injured. But something I have struggled a lot with myself and I imagine others have experienced as well is the fear of being injured.
I suffered a severe knee injury a few years ago that almost cost me my career and since then I feel like every time I feel even the slightest pain I panic. Even if I know I’m just sore or have a mildly overworked muscle I instantly go to worst-case scenarios in my head. To the point where I almost can’t show up and do my job because I’m so scared that what I’m feeling is another serious injury.”
