“Ballet is the perfect breeding ground for grooming and I just came face to face with that. The artistic director, ___ years my senior, kissed me without my consent. After I rejected him, he spent the next three months making my life a living hell. He would grope me in class and make lewd comments or give me the silent treatment or yell at me.
I came forward to the executive directors … I wasn’t the first one to tell them but they let it continue. They could’ve prevented so much pain and the other sexual assaults but they didn’t. No one protected us. The culture of ballet continues to be archaic in this sense and fosters abuse like this.”
